How does PianoRestart make money?
PianoRestart earns money through affiliate links. When a page recommends a course or a piece of gear, some of the links are affiliate links: if you click one and buy, the seller pays us a commission. The price you pay is the same as if you had gone to the seller directly. This page explains the arrangement in full, in plain language.
The details
- Which links? Links to gear we cover in our Gear section (keyboards, digital pianos, benches, books and accessories) may be affiliate links to Amazon. Links to courses in our Courses section are not affiliate links: they go to the course vendors' own websites, and we earn nothing if you buy a course. Pages that contain affiliate links carry a disclosure box near the top, before the first affiliate link.
- Amazon: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. When you click a gear link to Amazon and buy within Amazon's tracking window, Amazon pays us a small percentage of the sale. Amazon sets the percentage and the tracking window; we do not control either.
- What do we earn? On Amazon gear purchases, a small percentage of the sale price, set by Amazon. We do not control the percentage, and a higher commission does not buy a better verdict — our guides state who each product is not right for, including products we earn from.
- What does it cost you? Nothing extra. Affiliate commissions come out of the seller's side of the transaction.
- Refunds: if you return an item to Amazon, our commission on that item is reversed. We earn only when a reader buys and keeps a product — which is one more reason our interest lines up with recommending gear people are glad they bought. Course money-back guarantees are between you and the course vendor; we are not involved in course purchases at all.
- Cookies: when you click an affiliate link, Amazon may place a tracking cookie in your browser so the sale can be attributed to us if you buy within Amazon's tracking window. See our Privacy page for the cookie details we know about.
Our promise
We will never present a researched review as hands-on testing. We will never hide that a link is an affiliate link. And if a course we recommend changes for the worse — a weaker guarantee, a worse curriculum — we will update the page and date the change.
This disclosure is intended to meet the requirements of the US Federal Trade Commission's endorsement guides and Canada's Competition Act guidance on influencer and affiliate marketing: material connections must be disclosed clearly, and we intend ours to be impossible to miss.
